The mainstream media has reported that several App Store applications were approved with no problems when they depict heterosexual contact, but were rejected outright when they depicted homosexual content – even in line-drawing format.  The panels below are from a graphic novel version of “The Importance of Being Earnest”:

If this was a really isolated incident, it might just be a clerical error, or an overjealous summer student working the App Store approval queue…  but a few more minutes of reading turns up this:

(If you aren’t familiar with “Moby Dick,” there’s a sperm whale involved).

And the word “sperm” is censored.  Even though it’s part of a species.

Anyway, I digress…

I think Jobs’ motives are good:  to try to offer a porn-free online experience… because porn does seem to be everywhere as soon as you turn on your devices… but I think the choice has to sit with the consumer.

The sales numbers for Android devices are on the rise, and some pundits seem to think the censorship issue may be one of the causes.

I have had at least 2 iPods in service since the second generation hit the market… and I have been happy with their durability, battery life, and design.

But:  Would I have bought more than one if it didn’t play songs that contained profanity?  Or if it wouldn’t play an audio book with homosexual content?

Nope.

About four months ago, when Charl van den Berg won the Mr. Gay World pageant, I was very, very upset.

My comments were based on an interview printed in the Times Live (here).

I learned today that Mr. van den Berg was misquoted, and have read his formal statement.

I would like to apologize for any part I have had in spreading any misinformation or untruths which originated in the Times Live article.  I would also like to assure Charl that I was not critical of anything other than the 1-liner which I reference in my original posting.  It was irresponsible to base an opinion piece on a single piece of reporting, without checking what kind of bias might have influenced the author.

After Lady Gaga spoke at an equality march (months ago) Westboro Baptist Church made this parody of “Poker Face” — I have to admit it’s pretty funny (and of course, over-the-top offensive).

It’s not a new video, but I have been chuckling about it for months, so thought I would finally share it.

A new study has found a link between circumcision and the reduced incident of penile injuries (sustained during sex).

I had heard that circumcised men have a lower risk of HIV transmission (during heterosexual sex), and while this study also supports that statistic, the exact reason for the lower rate of HIV is unknown.  The statistics of reported injuries in the article is shocking.  (How ruff are people normally??)

Definitely worth a read.
