As I skimmed the news about the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), I saw mentioned a new movie: Creation.
I also became aware that this film has yet to find a distributor in the United States, because a release would prove too upsetting to right-winged Christians. This news piece struck me, as I have very strong feelings on Creationism and Darwinism.
But that’s not what this posting is about.
This film, a historical drama, is being rejected outright – for the beliefs espoused by one of the characters portrayed. From what I can gather (I haven’t seen it yet), this isn’t a film about evolution, it’s a film about the struggles of the Darwin family.
I really can’t see what all the fuss is about. At early screenings of The Time Traveler’s Wife, audiences didn’t like the ending. So it was rewritten to have a happy ending.
Perhaps this is another film that should be rewritten with a happy ending. That way, it would appeal to a larger Christian audience.
I’m sure with minimal edits, the filmmakers could create a newer, happier ending: and ending where God doesn’t die at the end.
